Big Events Around The Lake Still Happening After Labor Day
The last big weekend of the summer of 2010 is upon us and it
looks like plenty of sun for all of our visitors. We may even get a break from the really hot temperatures and with
some of the cooler nights we have been having the water temperature has dropped
from the bath tub temps we have had. Remember
the Lake Rules: Have lots of fun and be
safe!
HIGHWAY 28
Over a year ago the Chamber contacted the company that was
doing the surveying for the improvement of Highway 28 from Adair to
Langley. The Benham Group has been
working on this project to pick the best way to replace the current
roadway. A meeting was held a couple of
weeks ago in Pensacola that was attended by many concerned citizens and members
of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation to explain the plan and ask for
comments. Some adjustments were made
during those discussions and others will be taken in consideration.
The old roadway has to been totally replaced as it can no
longer be patched to make a safe road to travel. For most of the new construction it will be a Super Two which
means it will be a two lane with wide shoulders. In 3 locations the roadway will be a four lane, they are first in
Adair with a possible turning lane at the school, then again in Pensacola and
finally at the 28 & 82 junction in Langley.
All of the time
tables have not been set yet but the bridge contract has been awarded to a
company out of western Oklahoma. All
hope it will be completed by 2018. As
it is going to be built to one side or the other of the current road way the
traffic flow should not be a big problem.
We will keep you posted on events as they happen.
HOOK N’
COOKOFF
We have a couple more teams signed up and a few more vendors
with the biggest of those being the Saturday Morning Market that is held on the
grounds of the Artichoke Restaurant May Through October will set up shop around
the cooking team sponsored by The Potting Shed. They will add to the great selection of vendors we all ready have
signed up. There is still room for more
and one area that has not been filled is beverages, as the chamber is not going
to sell any beverages this year, so get organized and have your church or other
organization come out and help fund your activities. Call the office for details 918-782-3214.
DAM TOURS
And the count goes
on…..
As of last Sunday the great tour guides for GRDA have taken
8536 folks down inside the Pensacola dam to learn all about how is works and
makes a renewable energy source to keep the lights on here and far away. They do have plans to keep going after Labor
Day weekend as the visitors to Grand Lake are drawn to the great Ecosystem and
Education building that helps showcase what a wonderful place this is the
visit, play, work and live. There are
only 5 states that have not been represented: Maine, New Jersey, Rhode Island,
Vermont and West Virginia, so call your friends and relatives that live in
those states and get them here so we can have all 50 covered. I mean if they can make from New Zealand
they could make it from Maine.
