Grand Lake Chamber Article for 08-12-10 Chronicle

Good things are coming!

This is going to be a record summer for many around the Pond!  With the ground breaking last week of the Shangri-La Club house, that is magnificent in design, will once again dawn national attention to Grand Lake and provide services that have been missing for years.  Eddy Gibbs has chosen the right people to get the job done right and quickly.  This project will be the biggest economic development push we have known for a long time.  The eagle will fly again on the Island!

DAM TOURS

The record has been broken….The tour staff at the new Ecosystem and Education Center have now given more tours to visitors than another year since records have been charted.  The Chamber salutes the gang that has braved the very hot temperatures to show many how the dam is constructed and how it produces electric power and hold back the Grand Rive to make one of this country’s best play grounds.  If you have not taken the tour we encourage you to do so and make this a really great year.  Understanding all that has gone into and what it take to preserve the dam will make each of us better Grand Lakers in telling the world why they should visit a piece of Heaven

LEGISLATIVE LUNCHEON

August 19th at 11:30 AM we will gather at Mulberry’s Restaurant to meet with some of our state and federal representatives and hear from them what has happened in the last session and what is in store the coming year.  Now is the planning time for members of  both state houses and is  a good time to voice our concerns for our region.  Please continue to make reservations so we can have the proper space and food for this event.  You can do this online at admin@grandlakechamber.org or call 918-782-3214.  Remember if you do not vote or communicate with your elected officials to do not have anything to complain about!!!

MEMBERSHIP LUNCHEON

We will be traveling to the other GRDA lake this month and have our meeting at Lake Hudson Inn just on the west side of the Strang Bridge on August 26th at 11:30 AM.  We will have a presentation from the corporation commission of the 918 area code changes and why we have to punch in all those extra numbers.  The simply answer is the we are using more and more numbers and will run out of the 918 and new ones will get the 539 code.  Anyway you need to come and enjoy the Lake Hudson Inn and the hospitality of John and Johnny and the crew at this cute spot on Lake Hudson just a few minutes away from the big dam.  Call 918-782-3214 for reservations or email Lora at admin@grandlakechamber.org, we already have several folks planning to be there, don’t be left behind.

HOOK-N-COOKOFF

Calling all teams, Calling all teams…now is the time to sign up for your cooking team for the 17th annual and the 9th national Hook N’ Cookoff.  We have a few teams ready to go but want to have many more to compete for the honor of being the best catfish cookers in the Nation not just Grand Lake.  If you have not gotten the application just call the office and we can fax you one, email you one or even snail mail you one.  We will again be entertained by Jason and the Lickitey Split band and will have and expanded kid’s area with more stuff than ever.  You could even pick up a puppy from the Grove Humane Society or get your face painted by Trish.  Tickets will soon be on sale for tasting kits for the September 25th fun family event.  Make plans now to bring those lawn chairs and enjoy one of the best Grand Lake day for the whole family.

HAVE A GREAT GRAND DAY!!!
