The Skiatook Bluegrass Festival is an annual event sponsored by the Skiatook Bluegrass Association. The festival has steadily grown every year and we are looking forward to putting on our fifth festival. The upcoming festival will be held June 25-27, 2009. Essential information is given below, more detailed information can be found by following the links on your left and right.

Overview

The festival is located in Skiatook, Oklahoma. Skiatook is a small friendly community located in the heart of Green Country, about 30 miles northwest of Tulsa, OK.  In addition to the festival, the area offers site seeing, boating, fishing, and other forms of recreation. We received much praise for the outstanding line-up of  bands featured at our 2008 festival. We will present similar high-caliber bands in 2009. The festival will start Thursday night with a band contest and band scramble. Professional bands will play all day Friday and Saturday. In addition, there will be numerous children's activities, workshops, and our Youth Fiddle Contest. And, of course, there is round the clock picking and grinning in the camping area.  Ticket prices are a modest $5 Thursday night, $12 for Friday or  Saturday,  $20 for Friday and Saturday. RV sites with water and electric -- $12 per day, tent camping--  $3 a day. An added draw of the festival is the Youth Fiddle Contest.  The Youth Fiddle Contest is a fiddle competition open to children and teens up to the age of 15. There are four divisions: pee wee, junior junior, junior, and open.

The Skiatook Bluegrass Association is excited to announce the booking of three nationally known bands for the 2009 festival.

On Friday (June 26) we will have the Jeanette Williams Band. Jeanette is a six time nominee for the SPBGMA Female Vocalist of the Year Award. She has toured throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe and has performed with the likes of George Jones and the Dan Tyminski Band.

On Saturday (June 27) we will have Robert Hale and Wildfire! Their creative, spontaneous, and driving arrangements create an excitement for the listener that is unmatched.

We are extremely fortunate to have a living legend performing on both Friday and Saturday. I am speaking of none other than Alan Munde and his band. Alan is well known as one of the very best banjo pickers the world has ever known!  Among his many lists of achievements include receiving the Distinguished Achievement Award at this years IBMA. This is one of the highest honors bestowed upon a musician. This will be a "coming home" party for Alan because he was born and raised in Oklahoma. Not only will Alan and his band perform on both days of the event, but he is also going to conduct workshops---kind of like Michael Jordan showing you how to shoot a basket or Michael Phelps teaching you how to swim.

We will be booking several local bands as well. We are also excited about making Thursday night (June 25), gospel night.

Hopefully, we will get some of the local churches involved.

That's all for now.

Larry
